Today is G. K. Chesterton’s birthday, so I’d like to share my favorite Chesterton quotation:
Shakespeare is quite himself; it is only some of his critics who have discovered that he was somebody else.
Always insightful, and always ready to poke fun. Chesterton was an uncommon champion of common sense.
If you haven’t read any Chesterton, I strongly suggest you do so. His fiction is on the whole entertaining, but it is of mixed quality. His essays are of the purest gold. I don’t always agree with him, but I always love reading his opinions.
If you’re looking for a place to start, read Orthodoxy and then The Innocence of Father Brown.
